In spite of their being parked, Polestar's CEO sees value in EVs

Polestar has put two vehicles into production, and has announced the delivery schedules of four additional vehicles. In 2026, Polestar will launch its newest electric roadster, the Polestar 6. For a new company, it's impressive.

Polestar's CEO Thomas Ingenlath believes the company's success is due partially to the vehicles' design and performance, but it must offer more than just beautiful metal on wheels. In addition to automated driving technology, bidirectional charging is also on his mind these days.

Ingenlath uses his vehicles for more than just transportation. In terms of mobility, people are far too fixated on driving their cars. Ingenlath said, 'People must become more flexible, that is to say, they must become much more flexible.'

It might be more convenient to use other modes of transportation to get around town, but that leads to the dreaded stationary vehicle. The mobility startup industry has long lamented the waste of time and money on idle vehicles.

The company has announced that vehicle-to-load will be available for its vehicles in the future. The Ingenlath technology will be available on Polestar's next generation of vehicles, the company told TechCrunch.

The Polestar would send energy back into the grid during peak periods to help maintain the integrity of the system. The situation is especially relevant if the house has solar panels and generates more electricity than it consumes. A car would also function as a battery backup during a power outage.

Many people have to commute to work even if they have access to a robust public transportation system. Ingenlath believes that eventually, the vehicles will have some kind of automated driving system.

The cars of the future must enable the type of control and ride experience that people desire. As well as switch off and become a more integrated part of an autonomous drive,' Ingenlath said.

In the car industry, I have seen too many painful naming processes to ever participate in one.In contrast to Volvo, which announced that future models would have names instead of alphanumeric designations, Polestar is sticking with numerical sequences.

It is not a problem for Ingenlath to call the vehicles what they are. A good example is the Polestar 6 roadster. In addition, he notes that when you come up with a name, there's always the possibility of it infringement on another company, and frankly, he doesn't want that kind of struggle.

According to the CEO, Polestars will not only impress other drivers with their design on the road, but will also power the grid at home. The CEOs of car companies do not typically recommend leaving one's car at home for societal reasons.

The vision Ingenlath has for Polestar has resonated with the market. Maybe it will also resonate with his vision for community-based energy solutions.
