GM’s self-driving technology unit Cruise will launch commercial Robotaxi services in Austin and Phoenix.
The Robotaxi services will be driverless, which means a human safety operator is not found behind the wheel.
A few weeks ago, Cruise got all the permits necessary for commercial ride-hail and delivery operations in Phoenix.
Cruise companies are coming to Austin without experience as they have no infrastructure.
The Cruise will work in San Francisco, where the Robotaxi services operate in certain city areas between 10 pm and 5:30 am.
The company took 33 months to get all the permission it needed for commercial operations in California. It has been operating in San Francisco since June.
Things get interesting on the growth side by the next year of 2023, when thousands of AVs are rolling out of the General Motor plant.
The cruise will hit $1 billion by 2025 in annual revenue. Last year, the company expenses increased by $550 million, up from $332 million.
By 2025, Cruise plans to scale its Robotaxi service toward the possibility of producing autonomous consumer vehicles.
