Status updates are now available in WhatsApp's chat list for some beta testers

A new feature on WhatsApp is the ability to view status updates inside a chat list. WhatsApp beta for Android is marked as compatible with the feature, according to WABetaInfo, a website that tracks the latest WhatsApp updates. Only a few beta users will have access to it. WABetaInfo also shared a screenshot showing the feature in action.

'Whenever a contact uploads a status update, it will also be visible in the chat list: Just tap their profile picture to see a new status update!' the website writes. In case users do not like this feature, they can mute it. After muting, status updates will no longer appear within the chat list. This feature was originally released to a few users, but more people will be activated later.

According to the website, the update will soon be released to the WhatsApp beta for iOS beta testers. The feature is already available on WhatsApp beta for Android. "Status reactions" was recently added to the instant message app. Emojis for reacting to message statuses include Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes, Tears of Joy, Open Mouth, Crying Face, Folded Hands, Clapping Hands, Party Poppers, and Hundred Points. Similar to Instagram's feature, this feature lets users react to message statuses with eight different emojis.

Additionally, WhatsApp is reportedly working on a feature that will allow users to block screenshots to view images and videos once in the future beta version for Android. The "screenshot blocking" feature will prevent users from taking screenshots of view once images and videos.
