The UK launches a deeper antitrust investigation into Microsoft's $68.7 billion purchase of video game giant Activision Blizzard to reduce competition.
On 1st September, the UK’s CMA acquisition made Microsoft the world's third-largest video game publisher, which posed a risk to markets including consoles. The acquisition allows Microsoft to restrict that valuable content from other gaming platforms, particularly Sony's Playstation.
Microsoft proposed a deal to gain ownership of popular video game franchises, including 'Call of Duty 'World of Warcraft, and 'Candy Crush.
The company stated to CNN, 'We are ready to work with the CMA on the next steps and address any of its concerns.
The company launched an offensive with regulators worldwide, announcing several commitments, which include not giving preferential treatment on its platform.
On 6th September, Microsoft declined to make such an offer, and the CMA set the stage for a phase-tow investigation.
The deeper probe could result in a decision to clear the deal, impose restrictions on the acquisition, or block the deal outright.
