The latest Tesla software update includes a new chime notification when a traffic light turns green. An update will soon be released by Tesla that will allow all users to hear the Green Traffic Light Chime.
There are a number of benefits to Tesla electric vehicles over traditional gasoline-powered vehicles, and software updates are just one of them.
Similar to how Google, Samsung, and Apple send out updates to their smartphones, Tesla just needs to send out an update whenever it wants to introduce a new feature to the fleet.
In order for Tesla's Full Self-Driving software to evolve, software updates are an essential part of the process. New versions of FSD are released regularly as the software is still in beta, adding new features, fixes, and improvements as they go along.
The driving experience can, however, be improved by software updates regardless of whether an individual has paid for Tesla's FSD.
Currently, Tesla has released version 2022.20, which enhances seat restraints and allows drivers in other Teslas to collect and use suspension data to improve their experience.
Tesla_Adri confirmed on Twitter that the update also makes the Green Light Traffic Chime available to a wider number of Tesla drivers as part of the same update.
As of the latest update, the Green Traffic Light Chime is also available to Tesla owners who use Autopilot or the newer Enhanced Autopilot.
Before, the Chime could only be heard by Tesla owners who had purchased FSD. In case you're new to this feature, Green Traffic Light Chime is exactly what it sounds like.
When a driver is waiting at a traffic light and the light turns green, Tesla will sound off a chime to let them know the lights have changed and they can now proceed.
It may seem like a small change, but it's a big deal, not just for Tesla drivers. While driving at a traffic light, it's easy to become distracted, and many drivers can attest to how little patience they display before sounding their horn to let the driver in front know the lights have changed.
With the new Green Traffic Light Chime notification, this problem will hopefully become less of an issue as the driver will be instantly alerted by an audible notification when the lights change.
However, Tesla's release notes state that the chime is there to help and shouldn't be ignored. Tesla drivers will still want to check the light visually before pulling away from the lights to ensure it has actually changed.
