Audi RS 3 set a Nurburgring record within a week of its debut a year ago. So-called premium compact cars may have more to offer.

The ABT Sportsline 400hp (294kW) series engine was 'optimized' to 460hp (338kW) last month. Once again, the world's largest automotive aftermarket and performance parts specialist for Audi and Volkswagen shocked everyone by announcing the ABT RS3-R Sportback, rated at 500hp (368kW) and strictly limited to 200 units.

'You'd better hurry up if you want to see our handsome little racing car - as the products could be sold out soon,' says family-owned company head Hans-Jürgen Ab.

In addition to its performance enhancements, the ABT Sportsline Special Edition also features an extensive aero package and attractive forged wheels.

The mandatory ABT Engine Control unit is supplemented by an ABT intercooler. It increases the RS3-R's horsepower by 100 and torque by the same amount, so instead of 500 Nm of pulling power, it can now achieve 600 Nm.

The acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h has decreased significantly due to power increase: from 3.8 seconds to 3.3 seconds. An attractive framework has been created to highlight the five-cylinder power unit.

In addition, two stainless steel double-end pipes are now used, each measuring 95 millimeters in diameter. This 'hot hatch' excels in sharp curves thanks to ABT suspension springs and sports stabilizer bars.

A complete stainless steel V3 height-adjustable suspension is available. With this system, you'll be able to lower your front and rear axles by more than 20-40 mm. Separately adjust the bounce and bump.

In addition, this product was specifically developed for the RS3-R, so that everyday driving can be as exciting as the racetrack.

By using the new myABT app for Apple or Android devices, the RS3-R can achieve a maximum speed of 300 km/h, which is particularly innovative. There is no charge for this option.

With the app, you can adjust the performance characteristics anytime, from ECO to SPORT to RACE. Also available is performance data, including current power and coolant and intake air temperatures.

Apart from its 500hp, the RS3-R's biggest draw is its ABT aero package. With a high-gloss finish, most of the body is visible carbon. In addition to the front lip, side flics, mirror caps, and rear skirt insert, the rear spoiler is included. Fender add-ons are glossy black.

Sporty, noble looks are enhanced by ABT High-Performance HR20 20-inch forged wheels. Wheels are manufactured using lightweight materials, resulting in lower unsprung masses and therefore agile handling.

In addition to sportiness on the outside, the ABT RS3-R offers more inside. With ABT and RS3-R logos, the seats are refined. It is identified by an emblem badge and inscribed door sills with 'ABT RS3-R 1/200'.

With the ABT integrated entry lights with the ABT logo, the RS3-R floor mats, and ABT start-stop switch cap, the visual performance is rounded off. It's only fitting that such a powerful engine is brought to life in style.
