The Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun, announced the launch of the Xiaomi Pilot Technology progress report which showcases Xiaomi's autonomous driving technology.
An official blog from Xiaomi introduced the new fully internally developed autonomous driving solution under the name Pilot Technology, which it has developed within its own company.
The company has committed to invest RMB 3.3 billion over the next four years in the development of the first phase of its autonomous driving technology, as part of its commitment to the market.
The company hired more than 500 experts from around the world for its first phase of research and development. A smart electric vehicle segment was first announced by the company in March 2021.
The company also released a video of a live road test of its autonomous driving technology during the unveiling of its technology.
As seen in the video, the technology was demonstrated in multiple scenarios, including U-turns, roundabouts, and continuous downhill driving, demonstrating its safe and intelligent assisted driving capabilities.
As part of the Pilot Technology, advanced algorithms are included. According to the comprehensive list of scenarios it covers, it is capable of handling several scenarios that need to be addressed.
'The autonomous driving technology developed by Xiaomi uses a self-developed full-stack approach, and the project has already made significant strides beyond expectations,' said Jun.
The company plans to make a further investment of RMB 2 billion to capitalize on long-term industrial strategic capabilities.
The initiative will involve more than ten downstream and upstream companies. Xiaomi will be responsible for core sensors, core actuators, domain controllers, and other components within enterprises.
