We already know that Alfa Romeo is planning to introduce a whole series of large electric cars as part of a quest to increase its market share, but a new report from the UK sheds additional light on one of these models.

The article talks about a new crossover-style sedan set to arrive in the US by the year 2027 that will compete with the likes of the BMW i5, the Mercedes-Benz EQE, and the Audi A6 e-Tron, which are set to arrive in the US by the year 2027.

As Alfa Romeo CEO, Jean Philippe Imparato explained to Auto Express, the new electric model will be placed in the E-Segment, above the Giulia, which will also become an electric vehicle.

As Jean Philippe Imparato hinted: 'What about SUVs?', the model will not be limited by the traditional three-box sedan body style. How about sedans? Would it be possible to find a middle ground.

As Alfa Romeo's DNA is sedan, with a signature of sport, I don't think SUVs are the answer - I want to reinvent sportiness for the 21st century.' The Giulia successor may follow the same trend as Alfa Romeo bosses talk about how sedan bodystyles evolve.

A little more specifically about the large Alfa, Imparato said it will provide 'a high level of performance and roominess without destroying aerodynamics'. The Citroen C5 X and Peugeot 4008 siblings have recently popularized the fastback silhouette among Stellantis brands.

There are coupe-crossovers and raised fastbacks, but the features that they share are increased ground clearance, low-slung appearances compared to bulkier SUVs, and aerodynamic rooflines.

A Peugeot 408 combines elements from a low-slung bodystyle, a crossover, and an SUV. Would Alfa Romeo's designers be able to come up with a similar proposal that incorporates the Italian DNA.

The Peugeot and Citroen models are based on a stretched version of the EMP2 platform, which is equivalent to the STLA Medium. Alfa Romeo's new architecture will be the STLA Large, giving designers more freedom.

As a result, Alfa Romeo has a chance to take advantage of the full-spec version of the platform that has powerful dual motors and a large battery, along with a chassis setup that is specific to Alfa Romeo.

The new Alfa Romeo will debut in the US sometime in 2027, and other markets will follow soon afterward. It was revealed that Imparato's primary focus in development was North America, but they will sell it worldwide.

The manufacturer confirmed it will launch several SUVs, along with the Giulia and a yet-to-be-named larger sedan. A larger fully electric SUV will be at the top of the lineup, likely aimed at the BMW iX and Audi Q6 e-tron. It's also said to inspire the next flagship supercar.
