Fortnite's most recent live event involved a giant mech battle

During Fortnite's latest live event, a huge battle erupted, featuring a giant mech and several hints about what to expect from the game's upcoming season.

As a pre-game activity, players were transported to what appeared to be a frosted-over space station. As they cleared away asteroids that circled the station, characters like Agent Jones and The Origin bicker over a loudspeaker while they killed time.

They were given a mission: stop a powerful weapon that could wipe out all life on the island. There was a giant mech on that space station, which made its way to the island as a means of fending off the invading forces. Instead of piloting the mech itself, players took control of turrets to destroy tanks, blimps, and other armed forces.

During the early stages of the event, it played out like a hectic arcade game, but it had some beautiful cutscenes interspersed with the action, as well as quick-time events to do things like healing the mech or whipping out a giant laser sword.

The mech eventually went down, leading players to an on-foot invasion where Jones led them through battles centered around the mysterious Zero Point, one of Fortnite's most iconic locations.

As a result, Doctor Slone who appears to have become the game's main antagonist was confronted and the mech was able to save the day. Jones and the Foundation, voiced by Dwayne Johnson, jumped into the Zero Point for... whatever reason.

Until the game returns, players will have to wait: Fortnite is currently offline ahead of its next season. There are a few hints, however. The current “to be continued...” loading screen shows what appears to be a forest filled with bioluminescent plants.

while Darth Vader briefly appeared during the live event when fighting Obi-Wan. Epic, the Fortnite developer, is streaming the loading screen with some very chill music right now.

The event today was no different from the others that have become an integral part of the Fortnite experience over the years.

The one-time-only live events began in 2018 with a rocket launch and have since included everything from a battle with Galactus to an alien invasion to an all-consuming black hole.

In December 2018, the entire battle royale island flipped over, kicking off the game's current chapter.
