Apple announced on Friday, July 8, that it will begin taking orders for its newly redesigned 13.6-inch MacBook Air. A week later, on July 15, the laptop will arrive at buyers' doorsteps and be available for same-day retail purchase. With substantially faster memory bandwidth, improved graphics, and moderately improved CPU performance, it will be the second Mac to feature Apple's second-generation M2 system-on-a-chip.
We recently reviewed the 2022 13-inch MacBook Pro, which has the same chip. According to our results, the M2's CPU performance was 10 to 15 percent better than the M1's, and its GPU performance was up to 40 percent better with the 10-core GPU configuration.
The MacBook Air comes with an eight-core GPU by default, with an option to upgrade to a 10-core GPU.
As the first major redesign of the MacBook Air in many years, it ditches its tapered design in favor of a boxy, flat one. From its thinnest point to its thickest point, the 2022 model ranges from 0.16 inches (0.41 cm) to 0.63 inches (1.61 cm) in thickness, whereas the 2020 model ranged from 0.16 inches (0.41 cm) to 0.63 inches (1.61 cm) in thickness.
In addition, it brings back the MagSafe connection from MacBooks of yore, albeit with a different design, which can be compared to what was seen in last year's 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.
As with those laptops, it also has a taller display with minimal bezels, but a camera notch that is similar to the one found on iPhones.
The new iMac also comes in a variety of finishes, just like the recently redesigned iMac - in this case, Apple refers to it as silver, space gray, starlight, and midnight.
In the case of the 13.6-inch MacBook Air, the starting price is $1,199 for the configuration with an eight-core GPU and 256GB of solid-state storage.
There is also a standard configuration priced at $1,499 which offers a 10-core GPU and a 512GB SSD as part of the standard configuration.
Both of these come with 8GB of memory as standard, but you can upgrade to 16GB or 24GB if you wish. There is also an option to upgrade the storage capacity to 1TB or 2TB if you so desire.
