On Prime Day, should you buy a laptop?

The Amazon Prime Day 2022 will see discounts on laptops on July 12, but you may have to act fast if you don't want to miss out. Here are some things you should consider before purchasing a laptop.

On Prime Day, you'll find laptops at discounted prices, much like you would on Black Friday. Amazon's yearly sale event will take place July 12-13 and laptops are likely to be available.

I would delay buying a laptop until a few days before Black Friday, and the same applies to Prime Day: It's so close that it's worth waiting to see if the laptop model you want goes on sale on Prime Day.

You're likely to find only a few truly awesome deals mixed in with a lot of OK ones, and you should avoid some deals no matter how low they are. It's also a matter of what's available for sale when it comes to models and configurations.

In order to save some money, you might have to compromise with your ideal laptop or spend a little more than you had expected in order to get a better laptop for the money you're spending.

The best Prime Day laptop deals can also only be obtained while supplies last, so if you believe that a laptop you are considering is the bargain you have been waiting for, then you might not want to delay. If it seems like the laptop you are considering is the one you have been waiting for, you may not want to miss out.

You should always check the return policy before making a purchase. When you return laptops from Amazon, you usually get a refund or a replacement within 30 days if they are in their original state.

The Prime Day laptop sales in the past have been a combination of old and new models, and I expect that this will be the case for 2022 as well. PC manufacturers are currently updating last year's models with new processors from Intel and AMD.

Combined with chip shortages, there's a good chance that we're going to see more discounts than usual on laptops with older Intel Core and AMD Ryzen 5000 processors.

A new range of laptops with Intel Core-series and AMD Ryzen 6000-series processors will be available as well. They can offer a dramatic performance jump over the last-gen laptops. But for budget-conscious buyers, a slightly older laptop may be the best deal and likely won't disappoint when it comes to everyday use.

Don't forget, either, that a great deal doesn't mean everything will be cheap just because it's a good deal. The Predator Triton 500 SE (PT516-52s-99EL) gaming laptop will be available on Prime Day from Acer with a 12th-generation Intel Core i9-12900H processor, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti graphics, 240Hz refresh rate, 32GB LPDDR5 memory, and 1TB SSD for sale.

It usually costs about $3,000, and even though it'll be less and definitely a bargain, it still won't be cheap. In addition, Acer is expected to sell its Aspire 5, featuring a 15.6-inch full-HD IPS display, an AMD Ryzen 5 5500U processor, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of NVMe storage. Even if it's only $50 or $100 less, it's a steal, since it's normally $500.

I recommend buying laptops that are listed as sold by Amazon and ship from Amazon, regardless of price. It is also typically the best price for Prime Day. There are also reputable third-party sellers on Amazon, but if you're unfamiliar with the seller, it is better to buy directly from Amazon.
