A new update will break Android Auto for phone screens and have wireless issues

According to a report, the Android Auto for Phone Screens app that was used as a makeshift solution to get Android Auto benefits in older cars will stop working soon.

Recently, Google announced that it is working on an updated version of Android Auto that will include a new user interface as well as suggested responses based on contextual suggestions from Google Assistant. According to a separate report, beta testers of Android Auto have reported problems with the app's setup process and wireless connectivity.

Reports from 9to5Google and Reddit suggest that the Android Auto for Phone Screens app is displaying the message 'Android Auto for phone screens will stop working soon.'

Although Google has not released an exact date of closure, the message seems to indicate that the experience will cease to exist shortly. Google confirmed last year that the standalone app will be shut down beginning with Android 12.

The beta testers of Android Auto have reported various issues on Reddit (via Android Police). It appears that Google is testing a new setup process for Android Auto.

Some Android Auto users report that their phones flash a message about a setup process that doesn't seem to work through a wireless connection. When connected to a car, however, the process works fine.

Google announced a few weeks ago that it is working on an update to Android Auto, and this setup process is expected to be included in that update. Android Auto will have a new user interface that will combine navigation, media, and communication on one screen.

Additionally, this version includes contextual suggestions for messages and music recommendations from Google Assistant. According to Google, this will make driving safer.
