Kim Woo-Pyeong, one of Apple's semiconductor experts, will be joining Samsung Electronics in a bid to give the company a competitive edge in the semiconductor industry.

It has recently been announced that Woo-Pyeong will serve as director of the company's newly established Packaging Solution Center in Device Solution America (DSA), according to a report by Business Korea.

In addition to having experience working for Texas Instruments, Woo-Pyeong has worked for Qualcomm, one of Apple's suppliers.

After working for Apple for nearly nine years, he was recruited to work for Samsung after spending nearly nine years at the company.

Several experts believe that this kind of recruitment is rare since there is a special relationship between these two tech giants, and therefore this kind of recruitment is rare.

In any case, it's not the first time an Apple veteran has been lured to Samsung. In 2012, Luc Julia, who was responsible for Siri's development, moved to Samsung.

The Korean business publication Business Korea also reported Samsung's current focus on packaging technology development.

To overcome these obstacles, chipmakers are seeking to improve packaging technology since ultramicro fabrication processes are becoming increasingly difficult.
