Since Samsung has focused on regular security updates and released phones across a variety of price points, it has made some good decisions. Other Android brands are now following Samsung's playbook.
In addition, there has been little competition in the display panel market. It is not just mid-segment and flagship phones that are undergoing this change, but even entry-level smartphones like the Galaxy M13 5G.
Redmi and Realme should be able to compete with a few things on this phone. The phone's 50MP primary camera is perhaps its most impressive feature, which is a rarity.
Although it's inexpensive, it captures sharp enough photos in daylight, while indoor shots under uneven lighting are adequate for most people.
As Samsung cut corners to keep the specs within a budget, this is not a Rs 20,000 phone. There is no ultra-wide camera on this phone, but the 50MP shots are better than those on most other phones so this is acceptable.
An increasing number of people would like a phone that is good for web browsing, social media, streaming YouTube for a few minutes, and perhaps a bit of photography. So we have the 50MP camera.
Video is limited to FHD (30 frames per second). Make sure you have the portrait mode on when taking selfies because it gives you better skin tones and blurs the background.
Despite the entry-level processor, the phone has a 6.5-inch HD+ display (PLS LCD), and it has a 90Hz refresh rate, which does improve the experience. YouTube is a fine platform for watching videos, and the audio quality is good.
With integrated 5G connectivity, Samsung's 7nm Dimensity 700 octa-core processor offers a good 5G experience when it launches next year.
In addition to 11 5G bands, it has a processor that is capable of handling most tasks. Do not buy a new phone just because of 5G, as the technology is still months away from becoming a reality.
Lastly, there is the feature that most people care about - battery life (with 15W fast charging). Because the processor and display are power-efficient, the 5,000mAh battery will easily last 1.5-2 days. To get the best experience, we recommend keeping the 90Hz adaptive refresh rate on.
Someone who wants a phone that can be used for browsing and messaging, but also has a few extra features, or who wants a secondary device.
There are many people I know who aren't interested in spending a lot of money on smartphones and consider them just utility devices. This is what Samsung Galaxy M13 5G is: an affordable phone that packs a powerful punch.
