Mark Gurman reports that Apple's native apps may soon serve more advertisements to iPhone users. The Cupertino-based company plans to expand its revenue model by serving ads to iPhone users in Maps, Books, and Podcasts.
As Gurman points out, Maps already tests a model that displays recommendations based on search. As part of its deal with Major League Baseball, iPhone users are served ads across App Store, News, and Stocks apps, as well as the TV+ platform for Friday Night Baseball.
Apple might place ads in apps like Maps as a result of the expansion of its ad business, according to Gurman's weekly newsletter.
According to Gurman, Apple is already exploring the possibility of adding search ads to Apple Maps. Books and podcasts are other apps that could receive advertisements.

Similarly, publishers could pay for ads in Books to promote their work, podcast subscribers could be rewarded with ads, and TV+ ads could promote paid content while also offering older shows.
App Store and News and Stocks apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac currently display advertisements. The ads are currently displayed in the Suggested panel of the App Store's search tab.
Apple is expected to expand advertisements within third-party app download pages and on the Today tab shortly, according to Gurman. Banner ads on the News and Stocks apps resemble those on websites.
The App Tracking Transparency framework currently in place at Apple is intended to enhance user privacy by limiting third parties' ability to collect data if users choose to do so.
In native apps, Apple serves ads based on data from its services and Apple accounts. According to ATT, its apps are not covered by ATT's system since it 'does not track you across apps and websites owned by other companies.'
