There's no need to manually type out texts, as it's a much-loved alternative. Waveforms are now another feature WhatsApp is working on for voice notes.Voice notes will let you know exactly where the speech begins and ends. WABetaInfo discovered the feature by digging through WhatsApp's beta testing version.

This might not seem like much, but it's important. When a voice note is made, the audio waveform appears in the chat bubble.

The idea is that you can skip forward to the exact start point if there is a lot of empty noise at the beginning. In the same way, cutting off at the end doesn't make sense.

You'll also avoid 'noise pranks,' where someone records a very quiet message, forcing you to increase volume - only to make a loud noise at the end.

Currently, the feature is rolling out on the beta app - there's a guide below. This isn't the only change to voice notes we've seen recently.

WhatsApp enabled out-of-chat voice message playback earlier this year. In other words, if you are listening to a voice message in one chat, you can leave that chat and talk to another one.

As long as the voice note is playing in the background, it will continue to do so. You can now pause recordings and resume them when you're ready.

You can also listen to voice messages before sending them. Check out our guide below if you want to try out new WhatsApp features first. Go to Google Play on your Android smartphone and search for WhatsApp to download WhatsApp beta.

Until you see 'Become a Beta Tester', scroll down the page. By tapping the 'I'm In' button and clicking 'Join,' you will confirm your membership. The only thing left to do is wait for the beta app update.
