I congratulate you on being ostensibly steady of hand if you're not sure why you'd want to disable Shake to Undo on your iPhone. Even after almost continuously owning iPhones since the iPhone 4 (minus an ill-fated six-month dalliance with an HTC in 2013), Shake to Undo has been a constant menace.
As you can see, my hands aren't as steady as they should be. The old Shake to Undo feature on iOS allows you to undo typed text by shaking the device. If you're not familiar with it, well, it's pretty simple.
Despite being designed to make the deleting text easier for people with reduced motion, the feature can be somewhat sensitive. The level of sensitivity is even excessive.
When you use Shake to Undo, you get an annoying pop-up message asking whether you want to undo your typing every time you move your device in the wrong direction while typing (which includes me). Additionally, these pop-ups appear even after you delete a chunk of text the normal way.
The situation worsens when you tap undo in those situations. The deleted text does not appear back, contrary to what you might expect. My head spins when I see it.
Of course, it's not as major a problem as global warming, for instance. It remains, however, that Shake to Undo is a terrible inconvenience for those who do not need it. As a result, I haven't looked back since I learned how to turn it off.
Here's how to disable Shake to Undo on your iPhone if it's gone on too long for you too. The steps are identical if you want to turn on Shake to Undo, though you'll be toggling it at step 3.
That's all there is to it. You can no longer disrupt your literary flow while writing that angry email to your boss or that drunk 3 am text to your ex. Now that the safety nets have been removed, it's time to move on.
To ignore someone, you should probably read how to turn off read receipts on the iPhone as well as how to turn off read receipts on WhatsApp.
It is possible to unsend a text message on iPhone in iOS 16 if you were unfortunate enough to send that message to your boss.
