Using your iPhone to block spam texts

Filtering messages from unknown senders is one way to limit iPhone spam texts. A text message that originates from a number not on your contact list will go to a separate folder.

Here are the instructions for turning this toggle on. We should note, however, that this filter might also catch non-spam texts from companies like Uber and Door Dash. You should check the 'Unknown Senders' tab in the Messages app often if you turn on this filter.

Go to 'Messages' in the Settings app. Activate the 'Filter Unknown Senders' toggle. The same technology that enables people around the world to communicate is also used by scam artists looking to take advantage of unsuspecting users.

iPhone users can limit the frequency and visibility of spam messages, even though there is no bulletproof way to stop it. You can block a number if you receive a spam text. This will keep you from receiving spam messages from that number in the future.

To block a spam sender, tap the message you want to block. Once you have selected the phone number, tap on it. Click on 'Info.' To block this caller, tap 'Block this caller.' Then tap 'Block Contact.' You are now blocked from receiving spam messages from this number.

You can report spam messages in iMessage, Apple's messaging platform. Occasionally, Apple flags messages that are not in your contacts and have other spam criteria as Junk or spam. Just tap that, then tap Report Junk, then tap Delete and Report Junk. Apple is notified when you do this, and the message is permanently deleted from your phone.

Similarly, you can also silence incoming calls from numbers that aren't in your address book. You will still receive the calls, but they will be forwarded directly to voicemail. You will be able to receive phone calls from the numbers you've previously texted.

To turn this feature on, go to Settings > Phone and toggle the Silence Unknown Callers option.

Virtually all major carriers in the United States offer services and apps that alert you to spam/unsolicited calls and messages. You can find free and subscription-based spam calls and text blockers.
