In an adorably compact package, Ultimate Ears just announced its Wonderboom 3, the latest version of its beloved entry-level portable speaker that delivers high-quality 360-degree audio and up to 14 hours of battery life.
In our good year of 2022, the Microboom 3 still uses a Micro USB connection. In 2024, USB-C will be mandatory on portable speakers in Europe and it's a little...well, lazy to carry over the same unfriendly port from the Wonderboom 2.
As a result of the third-generation Wonderboom, there are a few improvements over the Wonderboom 2. The Bluetooth range has been increased to 131 feet, and the battery life has been increased by an hour.
As before, two speakers can be paired together for true stereo separation, but now with an extended range and battery life, you are able to cover more ground during parties. In addition, Ultimate Ears claims their speakers are made from a minimum of 31 percent post-consumer recycled plastic.
If you were a fan of the fact that both of these older models could float in water, you'll be pleased to hear that Wonderboom 3 features an IP67 rating for water, debris, and dust resistance. In addition to resisting jets of water, it's also 'drop proof' if things get slippery in the shower.
The Wonderboom 2 features a flat bungee cord loop, two-tone fabric, and a few changes from the original Wonderboom.
It comes in four different colors: gray, pink, blue, and black, with contrasting straps and control buttons that help it stand out. The speaker will be available in these colors 'initially,' which suggests there might be more colorways available in the future.
It's a modest upgrade from the Wonderboom 2, but hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it - especially when it's a follow-up to one of the best portable Bluetooth speakers.
