The startup sound, for instance, can evoke the same feeling as some other sounds.

Despite many users preferring to keep the system sounds off, they are an integral part of the overall Windows experience.

After going missing since Windows 8, startup sounds were brought back to Windows 11, so Microsoft probably feels the same way.

As an ex-employee, Jensen Harris has revealed, that Microsoft never originally intended such a thing, as behind the scenes,

they had developed a startup sound for Windows 8 as well since customers had enjoyed the previous Windows 7/Vista one.

In a YouTube video posted yesterday, Harris revealed the sound of Windows 8. The video is embedded below time-stamped, as it is only a few seconds long, but you can watch the entire thing as well.

The Director of the user experience at Microsoft at the time, Harris had pretty intimate knowledge of what the company was going through.

You can listen to it by visiting the “Media” folder inside “Windows” on your computer. The tune is titled “Windows Logon”.

There is a sense of déjà vu in this sound. In spite of the fact that Windows 8 never shipped with it, this logon sound has been on Windows 10 and 11.
