A collection of artifacts from Gemini XII and Apollo 11 missions will be auctioned off by Buzz Aldrin, the second person to walk on the Moon.
There will be several items in Buzz Aldrin: American Icon auction at Sotheby's on July 26 including the jacket Aldrin wore on his lunar mission, the 'Go Army, Beat Navy' banner he took to space on Gemini XII, and the flight plan pages and checklist he flew on the moon.
His Presidential Medal of Freedom and MTV VMA award statuette are among the mementos he carried into space with him.
The auction house said on its site it was pleased to showcase items from legendary Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin.
In addition to key items from Apollo 11, storied ephemera from Buzz Aldrin's space program, and clothing from the moon missions will be auctioned off.
NASA's Apollo 11 mission, which included Aldrin, Collins, and Armstrong, took place in July 1969. During Armstrong and Aldrin's first walk on the moon, Collins remained in orbit as their command module pilot remained in orbit.
Aldrin said in his 2016 memoir that 'new 'impossible' dreams can be achieved if you believe all things are possible,' Business Insider reported. Dream big!
Alonsht and Collins died in 2012 and 2021, respectively. July 20 marks the mission's 53rd anniversary.
The Apollo Space Shop website now offers dozens of LIFE magazine issues signed by Aldrin.
