It appears there will be no more fallout from today's SOLAR flare explosion that caused a radio blackout.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration fear the sunburst will have little or no influence on the geomagnetic storm that will occur on July 11.
The radiation from AR3053, the eighth largest sunspot eruption, disrupted shortwave radio broadcasts over parts of the West Coast.
As well as disrupting GPS, new data suggests the solar event also sent a 'partial halo CME' toward Earth.
It now appears that the CME will miss today; if confirmed, it will cause minor G1 geomagnetic storms today.
It may result in power grid fluctuations, or it may affect satellite operations in a minor manner. In high latitudes, this storm class ignites auroras that are visible to migratory animals.
As the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) describes it, a CME occurs when plasma is expelled from the solar corona.
A particle explosion caused by an intergalactic missile flare is often repulsed by the Earth's magnetic field, according to NOAA.
There is a wide range of speeds at which CMEs have been observed. They range from speeds slower than 250km/s to speeds of almost 3000km/s.
As fast as 15-18 hours is possible for Earth-directed CMEs to reach our planet. Several days can pass before slower CMEs arrive.
A period of increased solar activity is currently underway, which could lead to more solar storms. A solar storm can produce auroras as a positive result.
The sky is illuminated by a spectacular green and blue displays caused by the torpedoing of the Earth's magnetic field by the solar wind.
In the northern hemisphere, the Northern Lights are the most famous example. These birds typically live in the northernmost border states in the US, such as Maine and Montana.
