China presented a three-member astronaut crew for a six-month mission to finish the country's space station. Shenzhou-14 will dock with the Tiangong space station, the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) confirmed Saturday.
Sunday's launch will be from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in northwest China.
A three-member Chinese astronaut team, including a woman, returned to Earth in April after spending six months building the space station.
CMSA says they verified crucial space station technologies. Once complete, China will have the only space station. ISS is a multi-country project.
China Space Station (CSS) will compete with Russia's ISS.Observers predict CSS may be the last space station left after ISS departs.
Chen participated in the Shenzhou-11 crewed spaceflight mission, Liu in the Shenzhou-9 mission, and Cai is a newbie to space, CMSA deputy director Lin Xiqiang stated at a press briefing at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre.
Lin said the trio will orbit for six months. Shenzhou-14 will complete the Tiangong space station's core module, Tianhe, and lab modules Wentian and Mengtian.
Lin Xiqiang, deputy director of the CMSA, said the Shenzhou-14 mission will turn the space station into a national space laboratory.
During their orbital stay, the Shenzhou-14 crew will see two lab modules, Tianzhou-5, and Shenzhou-15 dock with Tianhe.
They will orbit with Shenzhou-15 and return to Dongfeng in December, Lin said.
Shenzhou-14 is the third of four crewed missions needed to complete the space station by the end of the year.
