Approximately 2024 is the target date for Relativity and Impulse to go to Mars

A 3D-printed rocket company known as Relativity Space said Tuesday that it plans to send a Mars lander and rover vehicle made by Impulse Space to the red planet by 2024

The Mars Cruise Vehicle, Entry Capsule, and Lander will be provided by Impulse, a new startup founded by SpaceX veteran Tom Mueller. Using Relativity's Terran R,

Earlier this year, its sister rocket, Terran 1, will likely be launched into space. Terran R has already secured more than $1.2 billion in launch contracts despite never having flown a rocket.

Mueller resigned from SpaceX in November 2020, where he developed several rocket engines, including the Merlin engine that powers Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy.

The company stated that it would offer 'economical last-mile space payload delivery services,' such as in-orbit servicing, orbit keeping or in-space transportation.

Both companies have an exclusive agreement until 2029. On Impulse's website, it is stated that the Entry Capsule would be injected into the Martian atmosphere after Terran R launches

Tim Ellis, head of Relativity, has always been clear about his long-term vision of going to Mars. In June, he said that 'our long-term mission remains to build an industrial base on Mars and to make humanity multi-planetary.

The role SpaceX has played in Ellis' own Martian ambitions has not been hidden from Ellis. When Relativity was founded, we were inspired by watching SpaceX land rockets and dock with the space station.

The founders of the company were 13 years old and they were, despite all of their remarkable success, the only company that wanted to make humanity multi-planetary and go to Mars,'

Neither SpaceX nor anyone else had even attempted to go to Mars or stated that was their core mission, and that remains the case today.
