As part of NASA's return to the moon, New Zealand is gearing up to become a star

It is ready to take part in NASA's capstone mission that will test the orbit of the Lunar Space Station, which is part of NASA's plan to return humans to the Moon.

Rocket Lab announced that it will launch a satellite from Mahia, New Zealand, to test lunar orbit for the Gateway outpost, an infrastructure that will provide astronauts with access to the moon's surface.

Meanwhile, New Zealand's government announced on Monday that it has signed an agreement with NASA to conduct new research to track spacecraft orbiting and approaching the Moon.

Andrew Johnson, manager of the New Zealand Space Agency, said the country is ready to participate in NASA's moon mission.

It is 'an important milestone' for New Zealand to launch into lunar orbit, while the new research will 'be of greater significance as more countries and private actors launch spacecraft to the Moon,' he said.

Humans will return to the lunar surface under NASA's Artemis program in early 2025, re-explore the Moon, and head toward a Mars mission. A woman will be the first person of color to land on the Moon and more than ever before will be explored on the lunar surface.

The launch window for Rocket Lab's CubeSat satellite is open until July 27. Rocket Lab hopes to launch the satellite as soon as Tuesday.

NASA said its first sounding rocket was launched from a facility in Australia's Northern Territory on Tuesday, marking the space agency's first use of a commercial launchpad outside the United States in its history. - Ed.

Three rockets will be launched from Arnhem Space Center between June 26 and July 12 by Equatorial Launch Australia, a privately owned and operated company.

Enrico Palermo, head of the Australian Space Agency, told Bloomberg television on Monday that space is experiencing a renaissance. Institutions like SpaceX have drastically reduced the cost of launching technology into space.

A University of Canterbury-led research team in New Zealand's agreement with NASA will track the spacecraft from observatories in Tekapo and Canberra, together with collaborators from the University of Auckland and the University of New South Wales in Australia.

To determine rocket trajectories to and from the Moon, the scientists plan to test their observations and algorithms against data from NASA's capstone missions.
