Asteroid defence by Beijing: China Fuyan

An active deep space observation station, China Fuyan, is currently being built in the municipality of Southwest Chongqing, a region in the southwest of the country.

A technology facility with scattered radars, each measuring 25 to 30 meters in diameter, as well as more than 20 antennas, will be constructed for the facility.

The Beijing Institute of Technology, the project's leading institution, says the antennas will work together to observe asteroids within 150 million km.

In addition to advanced space sensing, near-Earth defense, and habitability studies, Chinese experts anticipate that this facility will help them fulfill their nation's needs.

Long Teng, president of the Beijing Institute of Technology and a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, claims that since the device contains many antennas, it has been named China Fuyan.

As part of the project, the National Astronomical Observatories of China, Tsinghua University, and Peking University collaborate under the direction of the Beijing Institute of Technology.

According to China's Defense Universities Tracker published by the International Cyber Policy Center at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute in 2019, the BTI is one of the 'Seven Sons of National Defense,' 'a leading center of military research,' and 'one of only fourteen institutions accredited to award doctorates in weapons science.'

It is a federal agency that conducts research in 34 different categories of defense research, including missile technology, radar technology, and weapon systems, and it is classified as 'extremely high risk' and 'top secret.'
