In the event of repeated explosions on the Sun, a 'cannibal' solar storm will be heading for Earth.
There have been two coronal mass ejections, or CMEs, recently, during which particles erupted from the surface of the Sun.
A space weather expert has warned that they could disrupt satellites and other important systems as they approach Earth.
If they cannibalized each other as they headed towards us, they could create an even stronger blast.
The cannibalism occurs when one CME is thrown out of the Sun and then consumed by a more energetic and faster blast.
It is expected that the pair will arrive on Earth on Thursday or Friday. It is possible for them to trigger a G3 class geomagnetic storm, which is described as a 'strong' storm.
An event is categorized from G1 to G5, with widespread problems with power systems and communication systems included in the latter category.
The worst that can happen from this week's solar storms is that they will only reach G3. It could impact some power systems, affect satellites, and cause navigation problems.
Additionally, it could be an indication of far-flung auroras or northern lights. In New York and Northern England, lights may be visible in the sky due to the activity, the UK's Met Office reported.
It has been suggested that the next few days could bring 'High' levels of solar activity due to the Sun's continued activity. In turn, that could result in yet more flares.
