First images from the Webb telescope are awaited by NASA's chief

The $10 billion James Webb Space Telescope will soon release the first high-resolution images captured by it, and NASA's chief has hinted that they're going to be special.

NASA's Bill Nelson told a press conference this week that the material that will be made public on July 12 will include 'the most profound image of the universe ever taken' and said, 'We are moving farther than humanity has ever gone.'

Webb is only just reaching the peak of how much he is capable of doing, and that's just the beginning.'

As Nelson explained, the Webb telescope - the most advanced space observatory ever built - will be used to study objects in our solar system and the atmospheres of planets orbiting stars other than our own, giving clues as to whether they may share a similar atmosphere with Earth.'

Hence, it would appear that we're about to dig further into our understanding of one of the most remote planetary systems we've yet encountered - a system that may harbor life.

The Webb spacecraft has already sent back images of the Earth from its orbit about a million miles from the planet, which NASA has already made publicly available.

Nevertheless, the images that will be released in July will be of high quality, giving us a good glimpse into the observatory's full capabilities and the exciting possibilities they open up.

Despite NASA's lack of specifics regarding the upcoming images, we do know that, in the first year of the Webb mission, it will be capturing images of Jupiter, its rings, and its moons, as well as imagery that will help scientists understand how stars are formed.

NASA, ESA, and CSA worked together for decades on the mission, which is also expected to give scientists a wealth of new data that will broaden our understanding of the universe and its origins.

“Our astronomy team is nearing the end of the observatory's preparations for science, which will lead to an exciting discovery period about the universe,' Webb program scientist Eric Smith said recently. He added that the initial images will be released in just over a week, which will provide a unique opportunity for humanity to marvel at such a vision..”
