In China's upcoming missions to space, researchers are searching for habitable exoplanets

There have been a number of candidates selected for China's next round of space missions, which it plans to launch between 2026 and 2030.

In its next series of space missions, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has selected candidates, which are expected to launch between 2026 and 2030. Five to seven missions will likely be selected for launch from the 13 proposed, SpaceNews reported.

It is part of CAS's third Strategic Priority Program (SPP III), also known as the New Horizons Program (Not to be confused with NASA's New Horizons). In a paper published in the Chinese Journal of Space Science on June 28, 2022, each of the 13 candidates was described.

A mission called Enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry, or eXTP, will study the state of matter under extreme density, gravity, and magnetism conditions and search for gravitational wave and neutrino sources.

A small constellation of satellites would be deployed into lunar orbit to study undiscovered areas of the electromagnetic spectrum that could offer a glimpse of the earliest cosmos. The Dark Matter Particle Explorer-2 (DAMPE-2) will be a follow-up mission to the Dark Matter Particle Explorer launched in 2015.

CHIME (Chinese Heliospheric Interstellar Medium Explorer).  The SOlar Ring (SOR) mission proposes to deploy a trio of spacecraft around the sun at a distance equal to Earth's orbital distance around the sun in order to collect data on the sun and inner heliosphere. In a high-inclination orbit, the Solar Polar-orbit Observatory (SPO) would study the poles of the sun.

In order to study the inner corona of the sun, the Earth-occulted Solar Eclipse Observatory (ESO) is designed to orbit at Earth-Sun Lagrange Point 2. It is also orbiting at Earth-Sun L2 (NASA's James Webb Space Telescope).

In the E-type Asteroid Sample Return (ASR), the asteroid 1989 ML would be explored and samples would be returned to Earth. The Venus Volcano Imaging and Climate Explorer (VOICE) mission aims to study Venus's geological and atmospheric processes.

CACES (Climate and Atmospheric Components Exploring Satellites) plans to gather a large amount of climate and atmospheric data from low-Earth orbit

Ocean Surface Current multiscale Observation Mission (OSCOM) uses satellite Doppler radars to study oceanographic dynamics and dynamics.

The Closeby Habitable Exoplanet Survey (CHES) would study 100 sunlike stars within 33 light-years of Earth using microarcsecond relative astrometric methods. By using a seven-telescope instrument orbiting at Earth-Sun L2, the Earth 2.0 mission is designed to find Earth-size exoplanets that have similar orbits around sun-like sta

Each of the 13 proposed missions for the New Horizons Program will be assessed by a CAS committee based on criteria such as budgetary requirements, technological readiness level, and how quickly the required technologies can be manufactured in time for China's 15th Five-year Plan in 2026. New Horizons also funds research projects that will support future science missions.
