Live coverage of the NASA Artemis I Moon mission wet dress rehearsal

NASA's launch team checked into their stations at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 2.30 a.m. (IST) to begin NASA's wet dress rehearsal test for the Artemis I mission. At 3:10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, about 45 hours and 10 minutes before target T-0, the team began counting down.

In addition to powering up the Orion spacecraft and the Space Launch System (SLS) core stage, the teams will prepare the rocket's four RS-35 engines, which will not be lit during the test. There is, however, a restriction on the weather, which stipulates that there must be less than 20% chance of lightning within 5 nautical miles of the pad during the first hour of tanking. The temperature cannot be below 5 degrees Celsius, nor can the winds be above 37.5 knots.

As tanking operations begin on June 20, the space agency will also provide live commentary. During the majority of the lockdown, there is likely to be no activity on the launch pad. Propeller loading may cause some venting to occur.

After three failed attempts to complete the wet dress rehearsal, NASA had to rehouse the SLS and Orion spacecraft in April. Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) after rolling off Launchpad 39B. Upon completion and successful testing, the SLS would be the most powerful rocket in history. It was initially scheduled for a June launch to launch all of NASA's Artemis missions that will put a man back on the moon. The date has been pushed back since a wet dress rehearsal has not yet been completed.

As part of rehearsal, SLS, Orion, and their associated ground infrastructure will undergo a series of key tests. On April 1, NASA launched the first attempt. There were supposed to be some simulated countdowns after the liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen propellants were loaded into the rocket. Despite several unsuccessful attempts, the team eventually had to stand down due to some problems.

During the rehearsal, NASA reported that all the faults found during the initial attempts were corrected and that there was no damage to the spacecraft and rocket due to the thunderstorm that had hit when it was on the launch pad.
