In the center of the Milky Way galaxy, scientists have found the building blocks of RNA. In Frontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, the researchers published their findings. A cloud near the center of our galaxy contains some of those building blocks, according to the study.
RNA building blocks have been discovered in a molecular cloud named. According to the researchers, the discovery may have implications for theories about the origin of life on Earth. A similar discovery could reveal how life started on other planets as well.
A molecule similar to DNA is RNA or ribonucleic acid. It exists in all living organisms, just like the better-known double-helix.
RNA, however, consists only of one strand, unlike DNA's double strand. In general, its role in life's origin remains unclear. DNA may have preceded RNA in some ways, however.
Scientists have observed ribosomes, made up of RNA, as a major source of evidence. There is a much bigger discovery here, however. No one's mind is occupied by it.
It has, however, piqued the interest of many when the building blocks of RNA were discovered at the center of our Milky Way galaxy. Could RNA have been involved in the creation of life in the universe? There is a possibility. It will be difficult to prove that.
A group of organic molecules called nitriles was found in the cloud, which may have been responsible for generating RNA in the early universe. These building blocks of RNA suggest that chemistry could occur in the interstellar medium, say the researchers.
As a result, those nitriles would have been able to form the key molecules supporting the 'RNA World' scenario. The early universe was formed by RNA, arguing that it was responsible for life's origin.
Of course, the theory has its flaws. The possibility that these RNA building blocks may have played a role is interesting to consider.
The beginning of our universe still remains a mystery, despite all the knowledge we've acquired over the centuries. It is possible that this discovery will help researchers uncover more about the early universe, and whether the building blocks of RNA played any role.
