NASA Dragon Spacecraft docks with ISS delivering science to humans

SpaceX launched its 25th contracted commercial resupply mission for NASA from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy SpaceX Dragon SpacecraftCenter in Florida at 8:44 p.m.

Eastern Daylight Time on Thursday, July 14. SpaceX Dragon Spacecraft will return to Earth with cargo and research after spending about a month attached to the orbiting laboratory.

The Earth Surface Mineral Dust Source Investigation was developed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California to measure the mineral composition of dust in Earth's arid regions.

As dust travels through the air, it can affect the climate, weather, vegetation, and other aspects of the environment. Mineral dust can warm an area by absorbing sunlight, while light-colored mineral dust can cool it.

The impact of blowing dust on air quality, surface conditions, including the rate of snow melting, and the health of ocean phytoplankton is all varied.

In a year, the investigation will take pictures to map the mineral composition in dust-producing regions. We will be able to understand how mineral dust affects human populations in the future with such mapping.

The immune system changes with age due to immunosenescence. The effects of microgravity on human immune cells resemble immunosenescence but occur much faster than in Earth-based aging.

The Immunosenescence investigation, sponsored by ISS National Lab, investigates how microgravity affects immune function during flight and whether immune cells recover afterward.

The SpaceX Dragon Spacecraft Tissue Chips are 3D devices for storing human cells and testing how they react to stress, drugs, and genetic changes.

The immune system impacts tissue stem cells' ability to repair tissues and organs, according to Sonja Schrepfer, professor of surgery at the University of California San Francisco.

The study aims to uncover critical pathways to prevent and reverse immune cell aging.' 'Spaceflight conditions allow us to study immune aging that would not be possible in the laboratory,' says co-investigator Tobias Deuse, professor of surgery at UCSF.

There is potential to develop treatments for immune system aging on Earth based on the findings of this research. Additionally, the investigation could assist in developing methods for protecting astronauts during long-duration spaceflights in the future.
