NASA has discovered something 'unexpected' on Mars. NASA's Perseverance rover discovered the metal foil-like item during routine exploration.
Before you start thinking about aliens, the truth lies much closer to home. The material turns out to be NASA's own.
The 'surprise' discovery was revealed on Twitter and appears to be a piece of the thermal blanket.
They suspect the object may have originated when Perseverance landed on the Red Planet in 2021. The jet pack may have been powered by a rocket.
Zooming in on the image reveals tiny dots characteristic of thermal blankets.
The NASA spokesperson told CNET that they are certain the object is part of a thermal blanket, but are uncertain about which part of the spacecraft it belongs.
How it got here remains less clear, as there is no chance of knowing exactly what part of the spacecraft it came from, or where it came from,” said Andrew Good with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).
“The descent stage crashed two kilometers away; whether it fell to the ground after that or was blown by the wind is unknown.' The discovery however did not impress everyone.
NASA is essentially littering on Mars, according to some commentators. “There are no humans there yet, and litter has already been left,” one said.
We, the humans, have successfully disposed of our garbage on our feet even before we set foot in the area», complained another.
