New experiments from SpaceX Dragon resupply ship are unpacked by Space Station astronauts

A window on the SpaceX Dragon Freedom crew ship shows the SpaceX Dragon resupply ship approaching the International Space Station on July 16, 2022, with over 5,800 pounds of new science experiments and crew supplies.

The newly-arrived SpaceX Dragon resupply ship is continuing to unpack science experiments. In addition to ensuring the ISS's continued orbit, the seven members of Expedition 67 kept the station running smoothly.

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched the Dragon Spacecraft at 8:44 p.m. July 14 from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. It docked autonomously at 11:21 a.m. July 16 while the ISS was traveling over the South Atlantic Ocean at more than 267 miles per hour.

During Monday's unloading of the Dragon cargo craft, NASA astronauts Jessica Watkins and Bob Hines unloaded over 5,800 pounds of supplies and experiments.

Their mission was to transfer time-critical research samples into the orbital lab for research on and off Earth.

A study of the immune system, a study of protein production, and an investigation of cancer treatment are part of the new experiments.

Watkins and Hines were assisted by NASA Flight Engineer Kjell Lindgren in moving science freezers inside Dragon. For the XROOTS space botany study, Lindgren tended to hydroponic and aeroponic radishes and mizuna greens.

During her test of computer connections inside the Columbus laboratory module, ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti explored neuroscience, cardiovascular, and physiological research.

The three cosmonauts were primarily responsible for life support maintenance. Pilot Denis Matveev and commander Oleg Artemyev replaced Russian ventilation filters and vents.

The Nauka multipurpose laboratory module was equipped with orbital plumbing by Flight Engineer Sergey Korsakov.
