Solar flare similar to a snake is expected to strike the earth in a direct hit today

The NASA forecast predicts that a 'snake-like' solar flare will hit the Earth today (July 19). The NASA forecast model, created by Tamitha Skov, says the solar storm should not have a significant impact on the Earth.

There is an expectation that the 'snake' shaped filament will directly impact the Earth within the next few hours, and Skov said the solar storm could cause 'minor' disruptions to GPS and radio signal in the meantime.

Additionally, it is expected that auroras will be present due to the flare. Perhaps you can catch a glimpse of this spectacular view if you're close enough to the North or South Poles.

As far as Solar Storms go, it's expected to hit later in the next two days, says the website SpaceWeather.

There was also a follow-up tweet by Skov explaining how the long, snake-like filament was going to cartwheel its way off the Sun in a stunning performance.

There will be a difficult time predicting the magnetic orientation of this Earth-directed solar storm. G2-level (possibly G3) conditions may occur if the magnetic field is oriented to the south.'

This storm was caused by a coronal mass ejection - the release of plasma and magnetic energy from the Sun on July 15. It is estimated that the eruptions release 100,000 times more energy than power plants generate in a year.

Astrophotographer Dr. Sebastian Voltmer, who has been tracking the storm, describes its size as impressive. “One of its fast-moving parts ejected and detached to the side in a spectacular display.”

The Sun's 11-year cycle is responsible for these solar storms, which are more frequent towards the end of the cycle.

Earlier this year, Montana residents witnessed these storms' impact first-hand, when remnants of a Russian rocket booster fell rapidly out of orbit following these storms.

It has been noted that 29 reports of fiery objects were recorded over the western state by the American Meteor Society.
