Solar storm hits Earth amid fears of global outages, causing aurora displays

In the aftermath of a solar storm that slammed Earth today, space enthusiasts were able to capture stunning images of the aurora as a result of the fear of global outages that could impact radio and GPS signals.

The aurora borealis is a natural light that can be seen primarily at high latitudes. As a result of a recent prediction by space weather researcher Dr. Tamitha Skov, a big solar storm was likely to strike the Earth shortly, resulting in strong aurora displays.

District Hit!” A snake-like filament exploded as a solar storm in the Earth-strike zone. It is predicted that an impact will occur early on July 19.

It is possible to see strong auroras with this one, deep into the middle latitudes. 'Amateur radio and GPS users should expect signal disruptions on Earth's nightside,' the physicist tweeted.

As far as she is concerned, a minor solar storm is possible on July 20 at places with high latitudes, and there is a 50% chance of a major storm as well. The chance of an active aurora at mid-latitudes is 10%, and there is a 10% chance that a major aurora will occur.

Skov further stated that despite the waning of the solar storm at the moment, 'we are expecting more storming on the way.'.

A few days from now, it won't take much to bump us back toward storm levels,” she said. During a crack in Earth's magnetic field on July 19, solar wind entered the magnetosphere, causing a minor G1 geomagnetic storm.

As a result of the solar storm, more than a few social media users posted pictures of aurora displays they captured.

He retweeted one of the images and wrote, 'Aurora bright enough to be visible over the city lights in the Pacific Northwest, captured on an iPhone during the early stage of this  solarstorm.'

He explained, 'This view might be blinding if you wear night vision goggles.'
