The Artemis I lunar rocket is getting its final preparations for its rollout

A last integrated test is being conducted by the engineers before the Space Launch System rocket and the Orion spacecraft are rolled out to Launch Pad 39B on Friday in preparation for the launch of the Artemis I flight test next week.

The second part of the flight termination system test began this week. It was decided to conduct the first stage of the test early in the year before the dress rehearsal which was done in the rain.

Space Launch Delta 45 is required to have an emergency termination system to ensure the safety of the passengers.

The Eastern Range requires the launch of the SLS to take place within a defined period after the completion of the testing of the FTS system.

A Space Launch Delta 45 extension has been obtained from NASA to extend the validation of the FTS from 20 to 25 days before it needs to be retested before the Aug. 29 launch attempt and backup attempts on Sept. 2 and 5.

As long as Artemis I launches are attempted, the waiver will remain valid. Before rolling out of the Vehicle Assembly Building, teams will close out the core stage and solid rocket boosters and retract the remaining access platforms for SLS and Orion.

The hatches on Orion's crew module and launch abort system were closed earlier this week, and the spacecraft is in the last stages of preparations for launch.

In the Orion spacecraft, the Matroshka AstroRad Radiation Experiment torsos, Helga and Zohar, equipped with radiation sensors, have joined Commander Campos.

The final payloads, including the Biology Experiment-1 of the agency, are expected to be installed once the rocket and spacecraft are at the launch pad and ready to launch.

NASA plans to roll SLS and Orion onto Launch Pad 39B on Thursday, Aug. 18. A live stream will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17 on NASA Kennedy's YouTube channel.
