After a solar storm hit Earth on Wednesday, a brilliant display of the aurora sparked by the solar storm struck the planet.
Auroras are the result of disturbances in the magnetosphere that are caused by the solar wind, which is a result of solar activity.
It has been predicted recently by space weather researcher Dr. Tamitha Skov that a big solar storm is likely to strike the Earth shortly with a possible aurora show.
A solar flare headed toward Earth on the 16th of July was warned off by Skov on Twitter. After a few days, the flare appears to have erupted.
According to her, a solar storm would be heading to Earth and would interact directly with Earth's magnetic field. Skov predicted that GPS and radio signals would be disrupted by the solar storm.
The result was that skywatchers across the US were able to see colorful displays of aurora on Tuesday night as a result
As far as solar eruptions are concerned, it is just the latest in a long line that has rocked the Sun in recent years
On the surface of the sun, these are called bright spots, and they can last for a couple of hours. A flare explosion is usually caused by the discharge of photons from the sun.
Even though asteroids have struck Earth, there has been no documented damage. In March 2022, Earth was hit by a severe solar storm. A few days later, a storm of the G1 category made landfall in that area.
