According to Jarrod McLachlan, SpaceX director of rideshare sales, SpaceX has a full launch capacity for its dedicated smallsat rides on the Falcon 9 through 2023 and is “pretty full” in 2024 due to high demand.
It is still possible for smallsat companies hoping to get into orbit in 2023 or 2024 to reach out, McLachlan said, since clients sometimes manifest to later missions due to rideshare flexibility.
Our manifest is usually very busy, we have lots of customers hopping on and off, so there is some flexibility here. Understandably, schedules change,' he said.
Then another customer can take advantage of that slot on the Transporter to backfill their order. As well as working with integrators and brokers who sometimes have the capacity, we work with a wide range of brokers and integrators.'
In January 2021, SpaceX launched its first Transporter ridesharing mission and has since launched five Transporter missions. Although the number of satellites manifested for missions does not increase as small satellites grow, McLachlan said demand for rideshare is increasing.
The number of payloads has dropped in recent years, but the number of microsats has increased. The demand for satellite services is increasing, but the number of satellites does not necessarily correlate with it.'
As of now, SpaceX has not provided any updates on the Starship rocket's rideshare configuration or smallsat offerings, according to McLachlan.
She noted that SpaceX simplified its approach to testing CubeSats in an updated user guide for rideshare customers.
