The full and near moons of July 13 at EarthSky

In the year 2022, the moon will be full on Wednesday, July 13th, and will be at its closest point to Earth for that year.

Every year, there are two or even three near-in moons, known as supermoons nowadays, which occur twice or even three times a year.

Supermoons are moons that are close to their perigee, or the closest point in their orbit to Earth when they are also a new or full moon at the same time.

The graph shows the Moon's distance from Earth in 2022 as a function of the Astronomical Calendar 2022. This graph is derived from the Astronomical Calendar 2022.

According to the distorted summer time, the time of the perigee on July 13 is 9:04 UTC, which would translate to 10:04 a.m. in Britain and 4:04 a.m. in North America's Central time zone by the clocks on distorted summer time.

Perigee occurs just 9.5 hours before the moment of the full moon, which is the moment the moon is at its highest point.

The moon is the primary cause of tides, but the pull of the sun, which is vastly larger and distant from us, is about half as strong as the moons.

Due to the proximity of these two close-in moons - the year's closest new moon and year's closest full moon - in 2022, tides are at their highest.

The heat wave that is occurring in my home country of the UK is also rising. However, its amplitude may be due more to human interference than to the lunar cycle.

Expert chart-maker Guy Ottewell explains everything about the nearest full moon of 2022 taking place on July 13, 2022.
