Scientists discovered a fossilized human skull in Harbin, northeast China in 1933, but did not analyze it in detail until recently.

After being buried at the bottom of a well for around 80 years, the skull was finally recovered and sent to scientists by a Chinese worker.

Archaic skulls were unique because they were larger than any human skull in existence. There were nine inches of length and more than six inches of width on it.

Compared to modern humans, its brain would have been similar in size. Skulls were long and low with thick eye sockets and thick brow bridges.

Skull dated to 146,000 years ago would be from a man aged 50 or younger with dark hair, dark eyes, and medium-dark skin.

His flat face and large nose would have given him a rugged and well-built appearance. The name 'Dragon Man' was given to him.

Scientists believe the Dragon Man was a member of an ancient, extinct human species called Homo longi.

There is disagreement among scientists about whether this is a new species of human. Moreover, Dragon Man and Neanderthals may have been more closely related.

As well as extinct animals like wooly mammoths and giant deer, Dragon Man lived in frigid, winter conditions. Forest floodplains were his habitat.

One of the most complete early human skulls discovered is the Dragon Man skull, which is not just the largest skull in the human species.
