The launch of SpaceX's Polaris Dawn spacecraft is expected in December

The launch date of Polaris Dawn is set for December. A billionaire tech entrepreneur and Polaris Dawn commander, Jared Isaacman, announced the mission on July 29 during high-performance jet training.

'We are looking at the end of the year at this point, so that means that it will most likely take place in December,' Isaacman told reporters at the Experimental Aircraft Association's AirVenture air show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, as reported by SpaceNews.

The mission officials previously said they were planning to launch the mission no earlier than the fourth quarter of 2022, using a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and a Crew Dragon spacecraft that would operate in a low earth orbit.

The most famous mission Isaacman has flown with SpaceX is Inspiration4, which raised over $240 million for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in September as a part of another mission he flew with that company.

A Polaris Dawn crew led by Isaacman is deep into training. Additionally, Isaacman posted pictures on July 31 of MiG-29 jets flying as part of the air show, stating that his crew members took part.

The past few days have been amazing, he wrote on Twitter. 'High performance and high consequence flying is part of our training ... plus maximum fun. Thanks to a great team for pulling this together.'

A crewed launch by Isaacman will take place on Polaris Dawn, the first of three such launches. Isaacman will fly a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft alongside Sarah Gillis, Anna Menon, and Scott Poteet in this first attempt.

The second launch will be a Dragon launch, while the third will be the first crewed mission of SpaceX's next-generation spacecraft, Starship. The mission aims to conduct the first spacewalk by a private astronaut.

SpaceX will develop EVA suits for the crew. During the spacewalk, Crew Dragon will be depressurized similarly to NASA's Gemini capsules in the 1960s, requiring all crew members to wear vacuum suits.

As part of their training, the crew also engages in scuba diving indoors in California and climbing mountains in Ecuador to prepare for their EVAs, as well as practicing centrifuge exercises with voluptuous flight paths.
