The SpaceX company just broke its launch record for a single year and it is only July

A successful Falcon 9 launch this afternoon surpassed SpaceX's record for orbital launches conducted in a single year, launching its 32nd mission in 2022. Even though it's only July, that record is still up for grabs.

Except for 2019, SpaceX has consistently increased its launch cadence each year. SpaceX launched 31 rockets in 2021, the most it had ever done, making it by far the most prolific American launch provider.

Launching 52 missions throughout 2022 was SpaceX's ambitious goal at the beginning of the year. Despite the increased pace, a NASA safety advisory panel warned SpaceX to maintain safety.

“A former NASA astronaut and member of NASA’s Aerospace Safety Advisory Panel said during the January meeting that NASA and SpaceX must be careful not to be victims of their success in 2022.

However, SpaceX has been on schedule so far this year with smooth missions. In an ironic twist, SpaceX had originally planned to launch today's missions on Thursday, but the countdown was aborted less than a minute before liftoff.

A technical issue forced SpaceX to abort the countdown, which hasn't happened for many months. However, an uninterrupted countdown resulted in the company's launch today.

As a result of serving as its customer for the majority of SpaceX's launches this year, SpaceX can maintain such a busy launch schedule.

With these launches, Starlink is building out the constellation to provide internet from space and lofts batches of up to 53 satellites at a time.

A new batch of 46 Starlink satellites was launched today from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. There are about 2,600 Starlink satellites in orbit at the moment.

While SpaceX hasn't launched Starlink, it has completed plenty of other missions. A partnership between SpaceX and NASA enables the company to send Dragon capsules to the International Space Station periodically, carrying cargo and people.

During its Transporter missions, the company combines several small satellites and deploys them simultaneously. SpaceX's schedule is busy, on top of its commercial customers and Defense Department launches.

As SpaceX continues to learn how to land and reuse its rockets, nearly all of its Falcon 9 rockets launched this year were previously launched.

SpaceX is also exclusively using the Falcon 9 Block 5 version, which is optimized for reusability. The Falcon 9 rocket landed successfully on one of SpaceX's drone ships after takeoff today, marking the company's 125th landing.

Despite having beaten its record, SpaceX is still moving forward at full speed. Another batch of Starlink satellites will be launched from Florida on Sunday, July 24th.
