Just at the end of this weekend, stargazers will have a rare opportunity to see the stars! A rare phenomenon called planetary conjunction will adorn the sky soon.
Mars and Uranus, two planets in the constellation of Aries, will line up just two widths of a full moon apart. The Mars-Uranus conjunction is one of the rare opportunities for skywatchers to see these planets in such proximity.
By using a brightening Mars as a guide, they will be able to spot Uranus in the night sky from Earth. Even though their optics make it appear as if they are close to each other, they won't be.
It is estimated that Mars and Uranus will be 1.6 billion miles apart in reality. It will appear in the early morning hours of August 1, however, they are just 1 degree apart.
You have a chance to see Uranus in the sky this weekend if you have never seen him before. This may be one of the rarest celestial events! Don't miss it! Whether Mars and Uranus are in conjunction or not, you need to know when, where, and how to watch.
The exact distance may vary depending on your location. LiveScience reports, however, that you can watch Mars and Uranus conjunction anytime this weekend or early next week.
During the Northern Hemisphere's midnight local time, they will rise together in the east around midnight and be visible until two hours before sunrise.
The planet can be observed with naked eyes under completely dark conditions! The best way to spot Mars and Uranus this weekend is to use binoculars or a small telescope. A live broadcast of the planet's conjunction by the Virtual Telescope Project is another option if you miss this chance.
