A look at the Apple Watch Pro news, its expected release date, its features, and its rumors

A look at the Apple Watch Pro news, its expected release date, its features, and its rumors

Apple Watch Series 8 is not Apple's only smartwatch in 2018. Apple is also rumored to be working on a pro model that will focus more on sports and workouts, plus have a heftier design and longer battery life than the Series 8 model.

Apple is expected to release a pro-level smartwatch soon, though its name isn't yet certain - maybe Apple Watch Extreme, Apple Watch Max, Apple Watch Pro, etc. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman routinely leaks early Apple news.

Apple Watch Series 8 and iPhone 14 are expected to be showcased at the September 7 event, along with this new watch. The Apple Watch will come with pro-level features, which also means a higher price tag.

With a starting price of $370, Samsung's Galaxy Watch 5 Pro was announced in August. There's no way Apple can match that, considering the Apple Watch Series 8 is expected to start at $399, and it's a bigger watch with higher-quality materials.

What's our guess? This watch is going to cost somewhere around $900. According to Gurman, you should expect this estimate to be accurate when taking into account the $800+ price point of the 45mm Apple Watch Edition.

Apple Watch Pro preorders will start on Wednesday, September 7. When Apple's event takes place, we'll provide the link here to order it. In light of the watch's intended use, as an extreme sports watch, it would be logical to see it have higher water resistance as well.

The Apple Watch is also likely to feature blood pressure monitoring and glucose measurements. Despite the patents indicating Apple is interested in this technology, there is no indication the company will use it this year.

The Pro smartwatch will be how big? Gurman estimates a 46-47mm case, giving a bit more screen area than the 45mm Series 7. There will be 410 by 502 pixels on the display, and it will be as sharp as existing Apple Watch models.

The materials used to make the watch will also set the pro-Apple Watch apart from its regular counterpart. The Apple Watch is currently available in aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium; Gurman speculates that Apple Watch Pro will use a 'premium, non-aluminum metal material.'

As with the Series 8, this watch is said to have the same body temperature sensor and S8 chip. You won't receive a number like a traditional thermometer, but rather an information about whether your body temperature is elevated.

The S8 processor will reportedly perform similarly to the S7 and S6 chips inside the Apple Watch Series 7 and Series 6. The upgraded watch will also have LTE, unlike Samsung's 2022 smartwatch, which only offers Bluetooth or LTE.
