A new Google Nest router with Wi-Fi 6E, Thread, and Bluetooth LE appears in FCC filings

The FCC appears to be on the verge of approving Google's new Nest router, which is expected to come with Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth Low Energy, and Thread mesh networking radios later this year.

As for the model number, it is A4R-G6ZUC. This is similar to the IDs assigned to the previous Nest Wifi, the Nest Mini, the Nest Thermostat, and even the Google Glass, which is also similar to the IDs assigned to the previous Nest Wifi.

The outlet 9to5Google has confirmed that the model number for the new Google / Nest router is the one that was first confirmed in June by a source and now the outlet has confirmed it is the model number about it.

Several internal and external pictures are included in the filing but remain anonymous. The pictures highlight the wireless technology on board as well as the 'internal proprietary antenna solution.'.

The Wi-Fi 6E router offers a new 6GHz band as well as the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, preventing interference from other networks and enabling faster connection speeds.

The band can be used to backhaul local communications between access points, reducing some of the network's noise and thus improving performance for other devices connected to the network, even if you do not have many devices that can connect to 6GHz yet.

The theoretical top speed is 9.6Gbps, but the new spectrum will let devices use the maximum channel size and reach higher speeds in real-world situations, perhaps around 1–2Gbps with lower latency than you are used to from a wireless connection.

With the release of Nest Wifi, smart home devices like the HomePod Mini began to utilize Thread, which resides in the Matter standard Google adopted for interoperability of smart home devices.

As a result of Thread's ability to create a dedicated network for smart home devices, they will become more reliable and responsive regardless of whom they are manufactured.

The new Google / Nest router with Wi-Fi 6E could be available at the end of the year. Currently, Nest Wifi comes with a router and single mesh point and sells for $269, but the price could rise like the competition.

A mesh Wi-Fi 6E router from TP-Link, for instance, can also be purchased as a pair for $299, and the Eero Pro 6E from Amazon can also be purchased as a pair for $499.
