LG ToneFree FP9 earbud review: Full-featured earphones

The South Korean technology giant's out-of-the-box approach to wireless earbuds has resulted in earbuds that are better than its rivals. The ToneFree FP9 also sounds great.

In most wireless earbud sets, the charging cradle houses the earbuds, and ToneFree's FP9 follows the same trend. Jeans pockets fit the circular case easily. With a soft finish, the buds don't slip from the hand when removing them from the case.

The buds themselves look interesting as well - chic and compact. It is super comfortable to wear for long periods of time. Ambient mode and noise cancellation both perform well. As does the sound, which is clear and loud during both audio and phone calls. Nevertheless, LG has added some additional utility features to these buds.

The first feature is that the buds can be paired with a device that does not support Bluetooth. Just as wireless headphones can be paired with an aux to any device, the ToneFree FP9 can be connected to devices without Bluetooth.

The earbuds come with a USB-C to Aux cable. When the case is turned on, plugging the USB-C into a device like a treadmill or an in-flight entertainment system and the aux into the charging case does the trick. You can use the buds wirelessly without any hassle. Additionally, active noise cancellation enhances this experience. It is possible, however, that not all devices will work

In addition, the earbuds come with a UVNano charging cradle that kills 99.9% of bacteria within five minutes of charging. The charging case only comes into action when it is connected to a power source.

The buds paired quickly even without the app, but I recommend downloading and pairing the app to access additional features that enhance the overall experience. For example, look for the buds feature.

In case you often forget where you placed the buds after a call, this feature will come in handy - they make subtle sounds that make them easier to find. As well as reassigning the controls on the buds, I was able to use the app to do so.

The noise cancellation mode can also be switched to ambient mode. Last but not least, you can customize sound output using preset Meridien audio profiles and equalizers. There aren't many buds on the market with equalizer features.

Over the course of a couple of months, I used them daily for calling and streaming music and found they lasted about five hours with ANC. It lasted me a week when used without About seven hours are spent in ANC. In addition, I would say the charging case gave me around 16 hours of combined usage time.
