The Intel Arc is now available, and it's cheaper than AMD and Nvidia

It's an exciting day for Intel Arc - the first discrete GPU is now available for backorder. In comparison to similar offerings from AMD and Nvidia, the Arc A380 was priced significantly lower on Newegg.

The first step for Intel Arc has finally been made - the desktop version of the card is starting to become available outside China after multiple delays.

The first model to be offered. This GPU is expected to rival some of Nvidia's and AMD's budget graphics cards, like the GTX 1650 or Radeon RX 6400.

As a surprise, ASRock's custom version of the A380 made its way to market, not Intel's. As of now, we have only ever seen the Intel A380 edition and Gunnir A380 that has a water cooling attachment. ASRock Challenger Arc A380 is now available on Newegg for $140, but neither of these are yet available.

This graphics card features a single fan that should provide enough cooling for a card this size. The power connector is 8-pin and has a TDP of 75 watts.

The GPU runs the full ACM-G11 GPU with 8 Xe cores and 6GB of memory. In addition to the three DisplayPort 2.0 connectors, there is a single HDMI 2.0b connector.

The ASRock Challenger is priced competitively compared to Nvidia and AMD offerings of similar features. Earlier yesterday, Intel quietly announced that its better GPUs would also be quite affordable. The A380 is cheaper than its AMD and Nvidia rivals, even though we are still speculating about the A770 and A750.

It is possible to find the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 for around $190-$240 on Newegg, while the AMD Radeon RX 6400 is more affordable at around $150-$200 on the same site. In comparison, the RX 6500 is priced between $190 and $240. The new Intel Arc is more expensive than all of these.

Is it better to buy the Arc A380 or pay a little extra for AMD and Nvidia, two tried-and-true solutions? It's hard to tell. The Arc A380 performs well enough in a budget system, but Intel still has some driver optimization to do.

It has been a long time since the Arc A380 was first reviewed, and things may have improved. Arc A380 is not a top graphics card, but if you just want to put something together with low costs, it might be a viable option.
