The widespread outage of Fitbit Charge 5 left users unable to sync their devices

The Fitbit Charge 5 won't sync on Tuesday, and you're not alone. A widespread outage has left frustrated Charge 5 owners on Reddit and Twitter reporting their fitness trackers won't sync.

We've heard several complaints about our Charge 5 devices this summer, including the slow Ionic recalls and incorrect blood oxygen graphs. We've attempted to fix the problem on both Android and iOS, but are still experiencing issues.

A device last synced at 10:39 PM ET on Monday. In addition to unpairing and repairing the Charge 5, force quitting the Fitbit app did not solve the problem. The Fitbit Support account tweeted at 4:45 PM ET that the problem was resolved, and Charge 5 was able to sync successfully again.

A user report on Downdetector indicates that users have been complaining about Fitbit outages since late last night, with reports picking up steam around 6 AM ET this morning as users began to report outages.

The issue has also been reported to the official Twitter accounts. Many users have reported syncing issues with the Charge 5, but a few have complained about other devices as well.

The company has responded to individual complaints on its official channels and confirmed in a tweet that it is investigating the problem. Fitbit did not immediately respond to The Verge's request for comment.

As a result of the outage, customers have been frustrated repeatedly this summer. Fitbit has been slow to refund Ionic owners since its smartwatch was recalled in March after burning 78 users.

A Verge independent report revealed that three readers had problems returning their Fitbit Ionic devices to Fitbit. Meanwhile, Android users reported a problem with an app update that broke the estimate of oxygen variation.

The graph shows how blood oxygen levels may change during sleep. Several users reported a dramatic increase in their nightly oxygen variations after the update, causing widespread confusion. Update 3.65 to the Android app appears to have resolved the problem.

The announcement comes as Fitbit prepares for a busy fall. We may soon see some news from the company on the hardware front regarding the Sense 2 and Versa 4 smartwatches. Google Pixel Watch will also feature Fitbit heavily.

The Pixel Watch hasn't been given too many specs or details yet, but Google has highlighted the watch's Fitbit integration at this year's Google I/O as one of its selling points.
