In 2Q22, HP captured 30.8 percent of the market share and shipped more than 1.15 million units. Its second quarter 2022 shipment of 3.7 million PCs was 17.8 percent higher than in the same quarter last year, according to a new report by IDC. In the third quarter, the government segment led the growth due to spillover orders from the previous quarter. As channel inventory increased, other segments slowed. India's traditional PC market includes desktops, notebooks, and workstations.

The Desktop category continued to ship more than one million units for a second consecutive quarter, according to the International Data Corporation Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker. In the last three quarters, the notebook category had averaged over 30 percent YoY growth, but its growth rate declined to 7.3 percent YoY in the last quarter, according to IDC.

In the second half of the quarter, PC demand slowed but remained positive through April. The reopening of colleges in 3Q22 hurt the personal computing market. In the enterprise segment, IDC reports growth of 14.9 percent, lower than in the previous three quarters. The order materialization was delayed as a result. As well, SMB growth was slower than in the previous two quarters. As a result, channel inventory increased considerably and demand decreased.

The online channel has softened over the last few quarters. The high footfall in offline channels led to a positive quarter for consumers, however, the growth tapered as schools opened, resulting in a decline in remote learning demand.

In spite of the delay in college openings this year, vendors are still hoping that back-to-college promotions will bring consumers back into the sales mix. It is also anticipated that online sales will begin by the end of 3Q22. A correction in inventory is inevitable in the next few months, said Bharath Shenoy, Senior Market Analyst, PC Devices, IDC India.

HP remained the top company in terms of company-wise segregation in 2Q22, shipping over 1.15 million units and capturing 30.8 percent of the market. In 2Q22, Dell Technologies ranked second with a market share of 21.6 percent and YoY growth of 15.2 percent. In third place, Lenovo took 19.6% of the market. In 2Q22, Acer and Asus held 8.9 percent and 6.1 percent, respectively, of the market share.
